Laurence Ambrose Brown (born November 1, 1907, Basingstoke, died 1993) was Bishop of Birmingham from 1969 to 1977 [The Times, Friday, Jan 23, 1970; pg. 12; Issue 57775; col D "Church News Two New Bishops Appointed"] .
He was the son of F.J. Brown and was educated at Luton Grammar School, Queen's College Cambridge and Cuddesdon Theological College, Oxford. In 1935 he married Florence Blanche Marshall [“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X] .
He was a Residentiary Canon of Southwark Cathedral from 1950 to 1955, Archdeacon of Lewisham from 1955 to 1960 and Bishop of Warrington from 1960 to 1969 [ The Times, Thursday, Sep 01, 1960; pg. 12; Issue 54865; col A "Ecclesiastical News New Bishop Suffragan Of Warrington" ] .
He had been secretary of the Southwark Diocesan Reorganisation Committee from 1946 to 1960 and secretary of the South London Church Fund from 1952 to 1960. He was also chairman of the Church of England Youth Council from 1961 to 1966 [The Birmingham Post Year Book and Who's Who 1973-74, "Birmingham Post & Mail Ltd, July 1973"] .
