Issues

The Republican Party will be looking to retake the majorities it held in both houses of Congress from 1995 through 2006, with the exception of a Democratic Party majority in the Senate during 2001-2002.

The Democratic Party, in turn, will be looking to maintain and expand its recent majorities in both houses. The coincident presidential election will play an important role in the congressional races.
