magnet school in theGarland Independent School District located inGarland, Texas . Beaver Elementary opened in 1960. In 1997 it reopened as a magnet school for students who have a special interest in math, science and technology, also known as MSTs. Beaver Technology Center is one of two MSTs in Garland, serving students in west Garland, north Garland and Sachse. Watson Technology Center, Beaver's sister school, serves east and south Garland, as well as the community of Rowlett.In the Garland ISD, there are twelve magnet schools for a variety of students: gifted/talented students, students with a high interest in math, science, and technology, students interested in classical studies, and students focused on college and career preparation.
At the elementary level, Beaver and Watson Technology Centers are schools designed to attract students with a high interest in math, science, and technology. All subjects are taught with a heavy emphasis on classroom use of technology and hands-on problem solving. Students enjoy enriched learning opportunities such as planting in the greenhouse, forecasting the weather via the weather station, and studying the stars in the portable planetarium.
