Interleukin-22 (IL-22) is a cytokine with homology to IL-10 that was originally called IL-10-related T cell-derived inducible factor (IL-TIF). Human IL-TIF activates the transcription factors stat-1 and stat-3 in several hepatoma cell lines and up-regulates production of acute phase proteins such as serum amyloid A, 1-antichymotrypsin and haptoglobin in HepG2 human hepatoma cells.
