Shatura ( _ru. Шатура) is a town and the administrative center of
Shatursky District ,Moscow Oblast ,Russia , located onSvyatoye Lake 124 km east ofMoscow at coord|55.5761|N|39.5442|E|display=inline,title. Population: 30,393 (2002 Census); 31,635 (1989 Census).A settlement on place of modern Shatura is known to exist since 1423. In 1917,
peat deposits started to be mined in the vicinity. In 1918, construction of the firstpeat -fueled electricpower station started near the village of Torbeyevka ( _ru. Торбеевка). In 1919, the settlement of Shaturstroy ( _ru. Шатурстрой) was founded nearby, and in the 1920—the settlement of Chyornoye Ozero ( _ru. Чёрное Озеро). In 1928, all three settlements were merged to form the settlement of Shatura, which was granted town status in 1936.External links
