It lies about 15 km southeast of downtown Warsaw and is a part of that city's metropolitan area. Located on a picturesque confluence of Vistula and Świder rivers, it is home to one landscape reserve and three natural reservation zones. As of 2006 it had 18,157 inhabitants.

History

Jozefow was the site of a massacre of Polish Jews in the early days of Hitler's Final Solution during World War II. German Reserve Police Battalion 101 were the main participants of the killing of over 1,500 jews. [74, Ordinary Men, Christopher R. Browning, 2nd Ed., Harper Perennial, New York.]
