The district is subdivided into 17 subdistricts ("
tambon "), which are further subdivided into 153 villages ("muban "). Tha Ruea Phra Thaen is a town ("thesaban mueang ") and covers the whole "tambon" Tha Ruea and parts of Takhram En. There are 5 township ("thesaban tambon ") within the district - Tha Mai covers the whole "tambon" Tha Mai, Luk Kae parts of "tambon" Don Khamin, and Tha Maka, Phra Thaen and Wai Niao each parts of the same-named "tambon".
