# "Eventide""Solitaire" is a popular song written by
Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody. It tells of a man losing touch with, and thus losing, his sweetheart. Alone, he's "playing solitaire".Solitaire has been recorded by Sedaka,
The Carpenters (a #17 hit in 1975, it topped the Easy Listening survey),Andy Williams (a #4 hit in the United Kingdom in 1973),Jann Arden ,Sheryl Crow ,Clay Aiken , andSissel , among others. The Carpenters' version
The Carpenters' version was released in 1975 on the "Horizon" album. The original version does not have the guitar lead in between Karen singing: "A heart that cared, that went unshared, until it died within his silence." and "And Solitaire's the only game in town, and every road that takes him down."
However, the single version (which can be found on the CD, "") has a guitar line between the verse and chorus.
