The Warden (Farthing Wood)

The Warden (Farthing Wood)

The Warden is a fictional character from the animated children's television series The Animals of Farthing Wood based upon the books of the same name by author Colin Dann.

He is responsible for looking after White Deer Park and all the animals in it, and is the only human portrayed in a positive light by the series, and also the only one to appear in more than one season of the program. He had blond hair, it is revealed in "New Enemies". During this episode the Warden falls ill and is taken away in an ambulance, leaving the Park open to attack by poachers.

Cat

The Warden also kept a pet cat who appeared in episodes 2-6 of the second season and episode 12 of the third season. The cat was very pampered, enjoying its spoilt life, and became somewhat of a friend of Badger during his recovery in the Warden's house. This begins with a shared dislike of dogs. The cat claims he could survive in the wild if he wanted, because he practises hunting. After listening to Badger's tale of the journey to White Deer Park, Cat agrees to go and tell the other animals where Badger is. Unfortunately, while he is talking to Mole, Kestrel accidentally attacks him. He is tended by Vixen until he is able to return to the Warden's house, and Mole declares him part of the oath, while Kestrel apologises profusely. Fox and Vixen go hunting and leave Mole to care for the Cat. The Cat later attacks Kestrel, but is fought off by Badger. It is revealed in "New Enemies", that the two remain friends and Badger is distressed to learn that Cat has been taken away in a cage.
