- John MacLeod (minister)
John MacLeod (born May 14, 1948 in Fearn,
Scotland ), known inScottish Gaelic as Iain MacLeòid, is a minister of theFree Church of Scotland (Continuing) who has served in congregations of the Free Church of Scotland andFree Church of Scotland (Continuing) inScotland and North America. He came to prominence in connection with an orgamnised campaign against Donald Macleod, Professor of Systematic Theology at the Free Church College: the Professor was answerable to the Training of the Ministry Committee, of which Rev. John MacLeod was clerk. This sustained agitation, and other irregularities, brought him and over twenty colleagues under church discipline and, by January 2000, they had been suspended from the functions of the ministry, though allowed to retain manses and stipends. Later that month they seceded to form the "Free Church of Scotland Continuing", of which John MacLeod was subsequently appointed the Principal Clerk of Assembly. Subsequently, the FCC raised a legal ction in the Court of Session against the Free Church of Scotland, for title, funds and assets, but in March 2005 the FCC was defeated and, when they subsequently abandoned an appeal, were held liable for most costs. He wasModerator of the 2006 FCCGeneral Assembly .References
