Ferrie Bodde (born May 5, 1982 in Delft) is a Dutch footballer who plays for Swansea City.

Career

ADO Den Haag

Bodde started his senior career with Dutch side ADO Den Haag, signing professional forms with them in July 2000 at the age of 18. Bodde spent seven years with the club, playing over 150 games and scoring ten goals. On Jun 13, 2007, Bodde signed for Den Haag's sister club Swansea City for an initial fee of £50,000, rising to £85,000 if the club were promoted. They also negotiated a clause which would see 50% of any future transfer fee Swansea received go to Den Haag.

Ferrie made his Swansea City debut against 1st division Swedish side Östersunds FK in a pre-season friendly on July 14, 2007 scoring his first goal helping the Swans win their first game on Swedish soil 5-2, with his competitive debut coming a month later in a League One match against Oldham, which Swansea lost 2-1. His first goal for the club came in a 2-1 win away to Yeovil in October 2007. Bodde was sent off twice during the 2007/08 campaign, once against Doncaster Rovers for a headbutt, the other against Leeds United for an alleged stamp. Despite this he played 33 league matches as Swansea marched to the League One title and promotion to the Football League Championship. He was also included, alongside four of his Swansea City team-mates, in the PFA League One team of the year.

During the summer break between the 2008 summer transfer season, Bodde was subject to a £500,000 plus add-ons bid from Derby County F.C., a bid which Swansea Chairman Huw Jenkins described as "laughable - especially for a player who is not for sale anyway", before adding "I will not let our best players go on the cheap" [cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/derby_county/7408465.stm|title=Derby confident of Bodde snatch |publisher=bbc.co.uk|date=may 19, 2008] . He was also linked with a move to Reading. The interest from Derby led to Bodde handing in a transfer request [cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/swansea_city/7431111.stm|title=Bodde hands in transfer request |publisher=bbc.co.uk|date=June 02, 2008] , which was turned down by the club. Swansea manager Roberto Martinez later revealed that Bodde had done this as - “In Holland, if you put a transfer request in, you're asking for a move to be considered by the club if there's an opportunity. That's all it means. But in the British game, it's a stronger thing. It's more harsh towards the club and the fans and Ferrie realises that now." cite web | title=Rams set to bid £2m for Bodde| work=BBC Sport | url=http://www.therams.co.uk/details.asp?back=true&key=1D29|0|2185366269754|R|536|13090271162008853425232&parentkey=1D29|0|2185366269754|p|536|0| accessmonthday= June 12 | accessyear=2008 ]

Derby made a second bid for Bodde on June 6 2008, this time of £1m plus add ons, which was again rejected with Swansea wanting £2m for the player. [cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/derby_county/7408465.stm|title=Derby confident of Bodde snatch |publisher=bbc.co.uk|date=may 19, 2008] following the rejection of the second bid the club appeared to give up on signing the midfielder. [cite news|url=http://www.therams.co.uk/details.asp?back=true&key=1D29|0|2185366269754|R|536|1315727272008821159132&parentkey=1D29|0|2185366269754|p|536|0|title=New twist in Bodde saga|publisher=dcfc.co.uk|date=July 4, 2008] . But Bodde signed a new contract with Swansea City on July 15 to end speculation of a move. Bodde stated "I was mixed up and thought Derby was a step forward. But having spent a long time thinking about it and meeting up with the squad again, I realise that 'bigger' isn't always 'better'."

Bodde made a excellent start to the Championship season for Swansea, scoring 4 goals in 9 league games for Swansea, one of which being a [http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/7639327.stm] 45 yard drive against Preston North End away.

International career

Bodde has been been capped by Holland at Under 23 level.
