- Bernd Sturmfels
Bernd Sturmfels (b.
March 28 ,1962 ,Kassel ,Germany ) is a Professor ofMathematics andComputer Science at theUniversity of California, Berkeley .He received his PhD in1987 from theUniversity of Washington and the Technische Universität Darmstadt. After two postdoctoral years at theInstitute for Mathematics and its Applications inMinneapolis, Minnesota , and theResearch Institute for Symbolic Computation inLinz ,Austria , he taught atCornell University , before joining UC Berkeley in1995 . His honors include a National Young Investigator Fellowship, anAlfred P. Sloan Fellowship, and a David and Lucile Packard Fellowship.Bernd Sturmfels has made contributions to a variety of areas of mathematics, including
algebraic geometry ,commutative algebra , Gröbner bases,T-theory ,tropical geometry ,algebraic statistics , andcomputational biology .References
