Virolahti ("Vederlax" in Swedish) is the southeastern-most municipality of
Finland on the border of the Russian Federation. It is located in the province ofSouthern Finland and is part of theKymenlaakso region. The municipality has a population of 3,752 (2003 ) and covers an area of 375.35 km² of which 4.13 km² is water. Thepopulation density is 10.1 inhabitants per km².The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Vaalimaa border crossing, which connects the municipality withRussia , is located in Virolahti.Virolahti lost some of its area (over 100 km²) to
