Western Finland and is part of the Finland Proper region. The municipality has a population of 6,220 (2004-12-31 ) and covers an area of 409.14 km² of which 0.40 km² is water. Thepopulation density is 15.22 inhabitants per km².The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The municipality has previously also been known as "Pöytis" in Swedish documents, but is today referred to as "Pöytyä" also in Swedish.
