Cecil Armstrong Gibbs (
August 10 ,1889 ,Great Baddow ,Essex -May 12 ,1960 ,Chelmsford ) was an Englishcomposer .He studied with
Edward Dent atTrinity College, Cambridge , and with Charles Wood andRalph Vaughan Williams at theRoyal College of Music , where he himself taught composition andmusic theory from 1921 to 1939. From 1937 to 1952, he also served as the Vice President of theBritish Federation of Music Festivals .Amstrong Gibbs composed one
opera , oneoperetta ,incidental music for several plays, severalcantata s, three symphonies, a concertino forpiano and stringorchestra , fivestring quartets , oneviolin sonata , pieces for piano, works forchoir , and many songs, a great number of which were settings of texts penned by his friendWalter de la Mare .Major works
