squid commonly known as the Banded Piglet Squid.The creature was first photographed in Nigeria in 2005 as part of the SERPENT project [http://www.serpentproject.com] and was later submitted by Alan Kinnear for the BP Kongsberg Underwater Image Competition 2006. Since this time the cephalopod has grown in popularity and the first studies have begun with some research projects even winning the financial support of major corporations. Marine Biologist Emily Butt initiated the first longitudinal study of the cephalopod which is due to be published by Minerva Press later this year.Fact|date=October 2007
