- UIX
User. Interface.X (UIX for short) is
homebrew software for modifiedXbox consoles, and requires amodchip orsoftmod in order to run. UIX started as a project between modders of the originalXbox dashboard, The actual patches for the dashboard are legal, as they themselves don't contain any Microsoft code (XIP/XAP Modifications) Much like theEvolution-X Dashboard which is made up of XDK Samples and thirdparty code. It's also been said that Microsoft has taken pieces of the patches to include in their own releases of their software, for example the dashboard's 3D Graphics were stationary in the original releases, in newer versions they rotate (This was a patch to make it more appealing).* Patches released online for 'True Blue' graphics (The birth of the
Xbox Dashboard skin)

Xbox Live ! dashboard does, and the main dashboard only changes settings for it.)Legality
Contrary to what many believe the patches for the dashboard like the File Explorer, Dongle Free DVD, and the changes to regional settings are all legal and most of the patches for the original dashboard can still be found on Xbox-Scene [http://www.xbox-scene.com] and its forums. Though since it is still Microsofts main application for the
Xbox , No binarys are released to the public, Unlike theXBMC project which is perfectly legal until compiled, UIX cannot be distributed online as a whole.Other Projects using parts of UIX
