Lindsay Patricia Northover, Baroness Northover, nèe Granshaw, (born
21 August 1954 ), is a British polician and currentlyLiberal Democrats Spokesperson onInternational Development in theHouse of Lords .Born to Charles and Patricia Granshaw, Northover was educated at
Brighton and Hove High School and laterSt Anne's College, Oxford , where she received aBachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts inmodern history in 1976. She studied atBryn Mawr College and theUniversity of Pennsylvania , receiving a Master of Arts andDoctor of Philosophy inhistory and philosophy of science in 1981.Northover worked as research fellow at the
University College London andSt. Mark's Hospital from 1980 to 1983, at theSt Thomas's Medical School in London the years 1983 and 1984. She was lecturer at the University College from 1984 to 1991 and during the same time period historian of twentieth century medicine at theWellcome Institute inLondon .Northover contested Welwyn Hatfield in the 1983 and 1987, and Basildon in the 1997 general election. On
1 May 2000 , she was created alife peer as Baroness Northover, of Cissbury in the County ofWest Sussex .Baroness Northover is married to the surgeon John Northover; they have two sons and a daughter.
