Mehtar

Mehtar

Mehtar (Urdu: مھتار) is a Persian word meaning "Mighty" and was used in several ancient area of Pakistan to denote the local ruler. It is the title of the ruler of the former State of Chitral.

In the Khowar language of Chitral Mehtar (locally pronounced as Mitaar) is also used as a general word for king.
