Inland Center

Inland Center is a shopping mall located in San Bernardino, California. The mall is currently anchored by Gottschalks, Macy's and Sears.

History

Originally constructed in 1966, Inland Center was built on top of the former Urbita Springs area [ [http://www.pe.com/localnews/inland/stories/PE_News_Local_B_bpostcard13.3335f26.html San Bernardino's lost splendor remembered in book of postcards | Inland News | PE.com | Southern California News | News for Inland Southern California ] ] . The mall started off with three anchor buildings, and featured a large cement vault in the center of the mall serving its main entrance. Since 1996, the Robinsons-May company constructed the fourth anchor building in Inland Center's former Main entrance, along with a 4 story parking structure. Lots adjacent to the Parking Structure and most of the Western parking areas of the center are being taken and used in the recent I-215 expansion project under way from SANBAG and CalTrans [ [http://www.sanbag.ca.gov/projects/mi_fwy_215-sb.html SANBAG: Measure I Freeway Projects ] ] .

Recent Construction

In 2006, the original Macy's store which occupied a dated The Broadway location was closed and the more modern convert|165000|sqft|m2|abbr=on. Robinsons-May was converted to Macy's as part of the Federated Department Stores merger with May Department Stores. Mervyn's is to take over the old convert|94011|sqft|m2|abbr=on. building after a renovation project slated to be complete in October 2008 [http://www.inlandcenter.com/assets/inlandcenter/Press%20Releases/Mervyns_Release.pdf] .

Inland Center is managed by Macerich.
