Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans

The Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans (MCLNO) is the official name of two teaching hospitals in New Orleans, Louisiana. Both hospitals are part of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, commonly referred to as the LSU Medical School in New Orleans.

The two hospitals are Charity Hospital and University Hospital. Charity Hospital was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina and closed, possibly permanently.

There are currently plans to build a new modern hospital adjacent to the LSUHSC-NO medical school. If approved by the Louisiana State Legislature, such a hospital would replace Charity Hospital and University Hospital, and it would be known as the "Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans".

The original medical school opened in 1931. Among its founders was the physician Edgar Hull, who later contradicted the LSU historian T. Harry Williams' account of the assassination and subsequent death of Huey Pierce Long, Jr.[1]
