"Kid Dracula" is a pair of video game titles by Konami released during the early 90s. There were only two releases in the series: one for the Famicom and one later for the Game Boy. Only the Game Boy version made it to North America. It is considered a sequel to the Famicom story. In Japan, the full titles of the games are nihongo|"Akumajō Special: Boku Dracula-kun"|悪魔城すぺしゃる ぼくドラキュラくん|Akumajō Supesharu: Boku Dorakyura-kun|lit. "Demon Castle Special: I'm Dracula-kun". The Game Boy version was released in North America as simply "Kid Dracula".

The self-proclaimed Demon Prince, Kid Dracula, has awoken from a long sleep, only to discover that the evil dinosaur-like creature Garamoth has challenged him. Kid Dracula decides to destroy Garamoth himself.

Development

The Japanese name of the Castlevania series is "Akumajō Dracula" (literally Demon Castle Dracula), which is also the name used in most spin-offs of the "Castlevania" games in Japan, cementing a relationship between the two. Many of the backgrounds in the game's first level are very similar to those found in "Castlevania" games. The music used in the first level of both the Famicom and Game Boy games, "Go! Go! At The Castle", is also a happy remix of the first-level music from "Castlevania III", called "Beginning". Also, the game's main antagonist, Garamoth, later appeared as a boss character in "". In "Symphony", he dropped his cartoonish appearance and was named Galamoth (due to conflicting Japanese-English transliterations—a common part of the Engrish effect).

Legacy

Kid Dracula made an appearance in the Super Famicom version of "Gokujō Parodius! ～Kako no Eikō o Motomete～" as selectable character. He is also a hidden selectable character in the game's sequel, "", which is the PlayStation and Sega Saturn version of the Super Famicom game, "Jikkyō Oshaberi Parodius ".
