College friends Andy Martin and Dave Rose[2] launched Deep South in 1995 as a small, independent record label working out of the third bedroom of their apartment.[3] The company started out by releasing Deep compilations featuring material from up and coming artists. Deep South quickly gained national recognition as the artists they signed and released began to achieve great success, most notably Five for Fighting, Sister Hazel, The Marvelous 3, and Marcy Playground. In 2007, Martin and Rose teamed up with partner Amy Cox.

Artist Management
Around 1998, Deep South expanded heavily into artist management, handling over the years careers of such Grammy-winning and Billboard-charting artists as Bruce Hornsby,[4] Marcy Playground,[5] Stryper,[6] Michael Sweet,[7] Vienna Teng,[8] Tres Chicas,[9] Little Feat,[10] SR-71,[11] Allison Moorer,[12] Lee Roy Parnell,[13] The Warren Brothers,[14] The Subdudes,[15] and North Carolina artists such as Parmalee,[16] Sleep Control,[17] and The Small Ponds.[18]
Concert Event Production
Main article: Raleigh Downtown LiveDeep South Entertainment is regionally most noted for its concert and event production.
Deep South and the Raleigh Convention Center team up each fall to produce Raleigh Wide Open[19], which grew to become Raleigh's largest annual celebration, featuring Chuck Berry[20] as the headlining act of the 2009 festival.
Deep South has recently expanded its event production horizons by teaming up once again with Raleigh Convention Center for North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue's inauguration. The 2009 Inaugural Ball featured 35 national speakers and entertainers including Country singer Eric Church. Between 3,500 and 5,000 people attended this full broadcast quality production.[21]
Other events produced by Deep South include: CMT "Revolution" Tour with Miranda Lambert and special guests Eric Church and Josh Kelley at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park,[22] The NC International Auto Expo,[23] The NC Ag Jam,[24] The Chamber of Commerce 'Raleigh to Nashville' excursion and more.
Deep South, along with the Raleigh Convention Center,[25] also produced Raleigh Downtown Live,[26] a free outdoor summer concert series featuring national recording artists held in Moore Square Park in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina.[27] Raleigh Downtown Live became North Carolina's premier outdoor concert series, giving music fans free concerts by the likes of Joan Jett,[28][29] The Violent Femmes,[27] Better Than Ezra,[30] Spin Doctors,[27] Candlebox,[29] Gin Blossoms,[27] Big Head Todd and The Monsters,[27] and Charlie Daniels.[31] The events attracted as many as 10,000 music fans per event from all over the Southeast.[27]

Deep South the Bar
Deep South opened Deep South the Bar[32] in downtown Raleigh, NC, in 2007. The venue houses up to 125 people and features local and national music artists as well as weekly events such as Open Mic Night. Artists such at Puddle of Mudd, Blind Melon, Alter Bridge, The Bravery, Zac Brown Band and Saving Abel have all visited the venue just to name a few. Deep South the Bar is located at 430 S. Dawson Street and is open 365 days a year.
Additional Information
Under the Deep South umbrella falls a number of diverse music and talent based divisions including merchandising and online fulfillment, video production and a booking agency.
Deep South continues to be based in downtown Raleigh, NC, with a second office in Nashville, TN.
