Cdk9 -interactingelongation factor is atranscription factor related to Af4. It is the fourth member of the Af4 family (AFF) of trancription factors, involved in numerous pathologies, includingAcute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), abnormal CNS development, breast cancer andazoospermia .Because it apparently interacts with the species-specific human co-factor (
P-TEFb ) for HIV-1 transcription, and because it can repress HIV-1 replication, MCEF (also known as AFF4 or AF5q31) may have future therapeutic uses.cite journal |author=Estable M, Naghavi M, Kato H, Xiao H, Qin J, Vahlne A, Roeder R |title=MCEF, the newest member of the AF4 family of transcription factors involved in leukemia, is a positive transcription elongation factor-b-associated protein |journal=J Biomed Sci |volume=9 |issue=3 |pages=234–245 |year=2002 |pmid=12065898 |doi=10.1007/BF02256070]MCEF was originally cloned and named by Mario Clemente Estable of
Ryerson University , while he was a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory ofRobert G. Roeder , at theRockefeller University .ee also
