binomial_authority = Whitley, 1967The Papuan epaulette shark, "Hemiscyllium hallstromi", is a bamboo shark in the family Hemiscylliidae found around southern Papua New Guinea, between latitudes 7° S and 10° S, and longitude 144° E and 146° E. Its length is up to 75 cm.

The Papuan epaulette shark is a little-known inshore bottom shark, probably found on coral reefs. It has a caudal fin with a pronounced subterminal notch but without a ventral lobe. The body, and dorsal, anal, and caudal fins are covered in dark ocelli of various sizes.

Reproduction is oviparous.
