binomial_authority = (Quoy & Gaimard, 1824)The Indonesian speckled carpetshark, "Hemiscyllium freycineti", is a bamboo shark in the family Hemiscylliidae found around Irian Jaya in Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea, between latitudes 0° S and 10° S, to depths of 50 m. Its length is up to 46 cm.

The Indonesian speckled carpetshark is a little-known bottom shark, probably common on coral reefs. It has a caudal fin with a pronounced subterminal notch but without a ventral lobe. The head, body, and fins are covered in small dark spots, smaller on the snout. There is a large black spot behind the gills, not in the form of a conspicuous ocellus. The tail is very long and thick. It is nocturnal, hiding in reef crevices during the day.

Reproduction is oviparous.
