* 1977 – Locomotive number 043 903 pulls the last regularly scheduled mainline train on German tracks to be hauled by a steam locomotive.
* 1984 – The first Board of Directors of the newly formed Alaska Railroad, chaired by James Campbell, is appointed by Governor Bill Sheffield, and Frank Turpin is appointed company president.
