Shannon Kay O'Donnell is the weeknight 10 PM meteorologist for KING 5 News on KONG and cable station NWCN.

Biography

Early life & weather career

Shannon was born in Redmond, Washington and attended Redmond High School and she graduated as a valedictorian. [ Official KING-TV Press release of Shannon's return http://www.king5.com/about/newsreleases/stories/NW_112107NRSHANNON.6422b469.html] After she graduated, she attended The University of Washington where she studied to be a meteorologist and graduated with a degree in atmospheric sciences, and in addition, Shannon also spent seven years at the NOAA as a Marine Biologist.

Weather career

Shannon started out as an intern for ABC station KOMO in Seattle in 1994 where she was mentored by KING5 Chief Meteorologist, Jeff Renner. Two years later, Shannon joined KING in Seattle as the weekend morning meteorologist as well as her concurrent duties for Northwest Cable News. In 1997, she was awarded the AMS Seal of Approval [ Shannon K. O'Donnell #1068, http://www.ametsoc.org/memdir/seallist/get_listoftv.cfm] . She held that position until 2000, when she got the opportunity to work for KNTV, the NBC affiliate for the San Francisco Bay Area.

KNTV (2001-2007)

Shannon began her tenure at KNTV on January 23, 2001. KNTV departure

On November 27, 2007, Shannon announced that she was leaving KNTV in order to join her husband, who had already returned to their hometown of Seattle to go to graduate school.
