It is a modified copy of the Opel Kadett K38 (1937–1940).
It weighs 885 kg[1]. Moskvitch 401 was an improved variant of Moskvitch 400-420, produced from 1954, powered by an uprated 1074 cc sidevalve inline-4 giving 26 hp (19 kW) and a top speed of 90 km/h (56 mph). Both models were externally identical[1]. Production ended in 1956 when it was replaced by Moskvitch 402.
