Lim Tong Hai (born 1969) was a defender for the
Singapore national football team from 1990 to 1999, and is now the team manager ofGeylang United of theS.League .Football career
Club career
During his football career, Tong Hai played for
Geylang United (known as Geylang International at the time) in theFAS Premier League as well asTanjong Pagar United and returning to Geylang United afterS.League started. In 1998, he captained Tanjong Pagar United to aSingapore Cup andSingapore FA Cup double.He was also a member of the Singapore side that won the
Malaysia Cup andLeague double in 1994.International career
Tong Hai was also a member of the
Singapore national football team and had many memorable matches for SingaporeHowever, the lowest end of his national team football was at the
1993 Southeast Asian Games , where he scored two own goals against Myanmar. Singapore eventually lost the match and miss the final.Coaching career
Tong Hai retired from playing in 2004 and was appointed coach for the Prime League squad of
Geylang United the following year. In 2006, he was promoted to caretaker coach of the first team and was likely to continue to lead the team for the 2007S.League season as he was ready to rebuild the team after years of dismal results in the league, where Geylang United was last in the standings.However, there was a turn of fortunes when Lim led Geylang to a much-improved 2007 season high of 4th in the S-League table. There were much changes in the Geylang United side with Kim Grant,
Noh Rahman ,Hassan Sunny and Tong Hai leading the team for a better start for the 2007 S-League season.In late 2007, he was promoted to team manager when Slovakian
Jozef Herel was brought in as the Coach.
