Troutbeck, Manicaland

Troutbeck, Manicaland

Troutbeck is a village in the province of Manicaland, Zimbabwe located in the Eastern Highlands just outside the Nyanga National Park.

Tourism

It has one thriving five star hotel, named after the town itself, and this is very popular with tourists due to its high quality. Some may argue that Troutbeck Sun is very colonial but this hasn't changed its success. One huge pull factor is the fishing industry in Troutbeck where fresh water trout can be caught without difficulty.Adjacent to Troutbeck Sun is a popular shop called 'Santa's Grotto'. This shop sells mainly homemade goods by the residents in Troutbeck and the owners of the shop itself. There is also a small supermarket and other various shops in the town as well.

cenery

Troutbeck is high in the mountains and looks down into the valley, in to Nyanga below. Because of its height a small area was dubbed the name 'World's View' where people could go into a small tower and look out across the country and with the help of small engraved granite pieces around the edge of the tower could see the direction of certain towns in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mozambique and their distance from World's View.

Life Since 2000

The number of people visiting Troutbeck since the land reform program in 2000 has dropped dramatically mainly due to the decreasing number of wealthy land owners who could afford to stay in Troutbeck. Many of the farms in the surrounding areas have been taken over by the 'war veterans' and they have made it less safe for some people in the country to visit Troutbeck.
