Duchesne College was founded in 1937 by the collaboration of the University and the Religious of the Sacred Heart, at the direct wish of His Grace, Archbishop Duhig. The college was initially opened at Stuartholme College in Toowong, until a new collegiate building was constructed at the university in St Lucia in 1959.
Named after Rose Philippine Duchesne, a valiant French woman who was instrumental in bringing the Society of the Sacred Heart to America from France, Duchesne College stands as one of three all-female colleges on the campus. The college accommodates 201 students.
In 2009, the college opened the Rose Philippine Wing making it the largest all girls college at the University of Queensland.
