- North Point development
North Point is the name given to the redevelopment of old rail yard land in East Cambridge section of
Cambridge, Massachusetts .Site of rail yards originally built by the
Boston and Maine Railroad ,Guilford Transportation Industries (nowPan Am Railways ) decided to turn the now unused rail yards into a large development, containing commercial, retail and residential development, along with a relocated Lechmere Green Line transit station.The site is roughly bounded by the Gilmore Bridge, Monsignor O'Brien Highway, Water Street and the
MBTA Fitchburg commuter rail line. The area also includes some existing buildings which will remain, along with some new construction on the rail yard land, but built outside of the North Point Development umbrella. The site contains roughly 19 land 'parcels,' in additional to new road infrastructure and various parkland.Currently Phase 1 of the project is under way, consisting of two North Point buildings are under construction, and a major portion of the North Point "Central Park". Phase 2 is about to begin,when| date=October 2008 which will include additional new streets being constructed, and the new relocated Lechmere station.
