ntupdate =Brendan Kennedy (born
December 7 1974 inDublin ) is an Irishfootball player who last played withKildare County FC in the Eircom League First Division.Kennedy is famously the brother of Mark Kennedy - the ex-Irish international and ex-
Liverpool player (and Brendan's sponsor during the 2003 and 2004 seasons.) Brendan, a goalkeeper nicknamed "Ping", served a lengthy apprenticeship in junior football with clubs such asCherry Orchard (for whom he scored anFAI Cup goal), Ashtown Villa and Moyle Park before entering the League of Ireland ranks withShamrock Rovers in the 1993/94 season. He later plated forDublin City F.C. in 2002, where he disputed goalkeeping duties with the veteranRobbie Horgan for the best part of four seasons. Kennedy won the eircom League First Division championship with City in 2003 but was abruptly discarded by newly-installed managerRoddy Collins in the late summer of 2004, whereupon he joined Kildare County, making 11 first-team appearances at the tail-end of that season.He rejoined Dublin City in 2005, but appeared only sporadically in the latter part of the season, the on-loan Finn Harps goalkeeper
James Gallagher beingDermot Keely 's preferred custodian of the City goal. Kennedy was, however, recalled for the promotion/relegation play-off in which City triumped overShamrock Rovers to once more gain admission to the Premier Division. Despite this, Kennedy was not offered a new contract at the end of the 2005 season. His stint at Kildare County began in December [http://66.223.111.87/kildarecounty/irish_soccer_detail.asp?newsid=20476] . He has been consistent in between the post throughout the season. His performances included a penalty save against Limerick in a league match in September. He brings great experience to the team and has been rewarded with the captain's armband many times during the season.Towards the end of the 2006 season Kennedy has been struggling to hold on to his place due to competition with the promising new keeper - John Flynn.
Kennedy was released from Kildare County at the end of the 2006 season. He wasn't signed by any Eircom league club for the 2007 season but signed for
Monaghan United for the 2008 season.External links
