John Joseph McIntyre (
December 17 ,1904 -November 30 ,1974 ) was aUnited States Representative fromWyoming . Born on a farm inDewey County, Oklahoma , he attended the grade schools atRamona, Oklahoma and was graduated from the high school atTulsa , and from the law department of theUniversity of Colorado at Boulder in 1928. He was admitted to the bar in 1929 and commenced practice inGlenrock, Wyoming . He moved toDouglas, Wyoming in 1931 and continued thepractice of law . He served as county and prosecuting attorney of Converse County from 1933 to 1936 and was special attorney for theUnited States Department of Justice atWashington, D.C. from 1936 to 1938. He was an associate attorney in thesolicitor 's office of theUnited States Department of Agriculture in Washington, 1938. He was a member of theWyoming National Guard with the rank of captain from 1935 to 1941.McIntyre was elected as a Democrat to the 77th Congress, serving from
January 3 ,1941 toJanuary 3 ,1943 . He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1942 to the 78th Congress. He was deputy attorney general of Wyoming in 1943 and 1944, and served as a Staff Sergeant in Headquarters Battery, Six Hundred and Sixtieth Field Artillery, fromFebruary 9 ,1944 , toAugust 22 ,1945 ; he was decorated with the FrenchCroix de Guerre . He was Stateauditor for Wyoming in 1946, and was an unsuccessful candidate for election in 1946 to the 80th Congress. He was Democratic nominee for Governor in 1950, and was elected in 1960 as a justice of theWyoming Supreme Court for a four-year term; he was reelected in 1964 and served continuously until his death, November 30, 1974, in Cheyenne. Interment was in Memorial Gardens.References
