William Harrison Standley , formerChief of Naval Operations and ambassador to theSoviet Union . She was launched as DLG-32, a frigate, and reclassified Cruiser on30 June 1975 .The contract to construct "William H. Standley" was awarded on
16 January 1962 . Her keel was laid down atBath Iron Works on29 July 1963 . Launched19 December 1964 and sponsored by Mrs. Charles B. Wincote, daughter of the late Admiral Standley. Delivered28 June 1966 and commissioned on9 July 1966 ."William H. Standley" earned four
