Auditorium Dedicated To Desegregation Pioneer
In 1931, Lemon Grove Grammar School principal Jerome Green, acting under instructions from school trustees, turned away Mexican children at the schoolhouse door. The landmark lawsuit resulting from the "Lemon Grove Incident" became the first successful school desegregation court decision in the history of the United States. On
March 7 ,2007 the Lemon Grove Middle School auditorium, which is on the site of the former grammar school, was dedicated in the honor of Roberto Alvarez, the lead plaintiff in the court case. Epads are issued to all students. They are meant to compliment school work as well as replace textbooks. Online editions of books are being purchased in order to begin replacing the standard books.
Epads are tablet style computer with no hard drive. They run Windows CE, can be used with a stylus, have numerous USB ports, use a rechargeable battery, use a mouse and keyboard.
They can only connect to the internet via the school's server. They can work stand alone, or use district Citrix servers. Students can connect to the Internet through a WiFi connection or through Cox Communications. Cox can install a high speed Internet connection in the homes of students. This allows access to teachers agendas, internal student websites, as well as downloading homework that was forgotten. [http://lemongroveschools1.net/13411012137296360/site/default.asp]
The case that holds the Epad acts as a case and a backpack. Lemon Grove School District was the first to use this new type of technology in an educational environment.
