Kit is a unique character in the Disney Mythos given his dark past. He is a 12 year old orphan who lived with the Air Pirates under
Don Karnage one year prior to the start of the series. He leaves because he "got sick" of them. He first encounters Baloo, when he hides in the latter's plane to escape from the air pirates. [cite book

On occasion, he has been known to put his dreams ahead of his friends. Having lived on his own for most of his life, Kit is distrustful of adults. He only warms up to Baloo after he is given the chance to fly the Seaduck, and even then he is ready to leave for greener pastures. Nevertheless he does look upon the other members of the Higher for Hire company as a
surrogate family, affectionately referring to Baloo as "Papa Bear" on occasion, and is very fond of Rebecca Cunningham's daughter Molly.Although he eventually stays at Higher for Hire, at least once in the episode “Stormy Weather” did he tell off Baloo saying “You can't tell me what to do! You're not my dad!” Kit would come to regret his decision later in the episode.
Cloud Surfing
Kit is one of the few who can cloud surf. He uses a crescent shaped device called an airfoil and a regular cord attached to the back of an airplane to 'surf' much like one would water ski off the back of a boat on the ocean. It is unknown where Kit learned this skill, but he is clearly very adept at it.
