Strawberry box houses

Strawberry box houses

Strawberry box houses was a style of home building in the 1950s and 1960s in the Toronto area based on a square foundation and similar in appearance to boxes used to hold strawberries.

The house style was either a detached bungalow or a two-storey semi-detached. The facade of this style is primarily brick with entrances at the front and sides.

The style is found throughout North York, south Scarborough (south of Highway 401 (Ontario)) and north Etobicoke (north of Highway 401 (Ontario)).
