The Colony Palms Hotel is located in Palm Springs, California. The Hotel has 56 rooms and suites.
It has recently re-opened after extensive renovation, and features the "Winner's Circle Suite" in honor of previous owners, Robert Howard and Amanda Leeds Howard and the legendary racehorse; Seabiscuit.
History
The Colony Palms Hotel was originally referred to as The Colonial House by reputed mobster owner Al Wertheimer. The hotel began receiving guests in 1936, featuring a good night’s rest as well as a legendary underground speakeasy and brothel. The hotel was renamed The Howard Manor in the late 1940s when Robert and Amanda Leeds Howard took possession. (Robert was the son of Charles S. Howard.).[1] For the next 25 years the hotel was a haven for young Hollywood in Palm Springs.
In 1979, it became a health spa called The Palms.
The original hotel had a mural on the wall that was Botticelli-esque in nature, with some frolicking nudes. The new owner plans to preserve the original mural from 1935.[2]
