Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) in Lancaster, England, is the international business school of Lancaster University. The School was established in 1964. It is ranked first in the UK for its business and management research; and teaches the full range of business and management subjects, with undergraduate degrees, postgraduate degrees, including MBAs and PhDs, and post-experience executive education. Its MBA is ranked 22nd in the World overall, and first for value for money.

LUMS is made up of eight academic departments: Accounting and Finance, Economics, the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development, the Management Development Division, Management Learning and Leadership, Management Science, Marketing, and Organisation, Work and Technology.

The School is located in modern buildings opened in 2005. It is one of the three faculties of Lancaster University, which occupies an attractive parkland campus just south of the city of Lancaster.

Organisational relationships

LUMS has worked in partnership with many companies to develop customised executive education. Partners have included: BAE Systems, British Airways, Pilkington, Bass, Royal & SunAlliance, AstraZeneca, and Total. The School has worked with many public sector organisations including the NHS. Through its Institute for Entrepreneurship it also provides business support and knowledge transfer for small and medium enterprises in England's North West.

In 2005, LUMS partnered with Ernst & Young to offer an undergraduate degree in Accounting, Auditing and Finance, in which students undertake up to 18 months of paid work-experience with Ernst & Young, whilst being trained for a Chartered Accountant qualification. Several LUMS Masters programmes have modules designed and delivered by employers - these include Accenture, Cisco, IBM and SAP AG.

The Lancaster MBA

The Lancaster MBA is AMBA-accredited and is in the FT and Economist Intelligence Unit’s global top 100. In 2008 it was ranked by the FT as 22th in the world and first in the UK for value for money.

LUMS has one of the largest business and management PhD programmes in the world, with over 150 students. The Financial Times MBA rankings 2008 ranks LUMS as 5th in the world for Phd Programmes.

Executive programmes
