Ahmet Piriştina (March/April 8 1952 –
June 15 ,2004 ) was a well-known Turkish politician.Biography
Ahmet Piriştina was born in
İzmir ,Turkey in 1952. He was elected mayor of İzmir from Republican People's Party in two (1999, 2004) consecutiveelections . He died of a heart attack at the age of 52. He has two children.Political life
During his administrative function he did a lot of project which resolved substructure problems of İzmir this period, he did a lot of things for protecting İzmirs natural sources and historical artifacts.Here are some examples about his acts;
1. İzmir Port-Zone Urban Design International Animus Competition:The aim of this competition was getting access to new ideas about developing urban areas and architectural characters of İzmir port-zone, and as a result of this competition, construct a new city center at the port-zone at the level of international statue.
2. Channel Project:The aim of this project was collecting all the domestic and industrial waste water throughout İzmir, and after sublimate the waters, discharged them to the
İzmir gulf which is the biggest natural gulf of Turkey.As a result of this project, the gulf was saved from the danger of being fully dirty.3. Parks & Gardens:Mr. Piriştina created 1 million,333,495 square meter open-space areas. Furthermore, he did grasses on street refuges and viaducts for not only redoubled open space areas but also composed on an aesthetic outlook.
4. Metro Project:Ahmet Piriştina constructed İzmir Metro System for simplify citizens daily life and avert them not to waste needles time for intercommunication. With metros high technology and coordination, İzmir Metro System become an important sample for many developed countries.
5. Car Park Project:To come along with emigration, occurred a big problem which was unplanned and awry structuring. Because of this problem, there is a decline not only at the open spaces areas but also at car lots in big cities. Such a one process, local administrations having difficulties in finding corresponding places for increasing access needs, and come across with eminent costs. Despite of these problems, İzmir Metropolitan Government composed areas for corresponding requirements of car parking zone.
6. The Project of Protecting Water Sources:While affording uninterrupted water to İzmir, he was setting workers to resolve firmly to protect existent water sources for ensuring high quality and healthy water to İzmir. Besides of these, Piriştina entrenching and safeguarding dam of
Tahtalı and its basin. Tahtalı barrage is really very important for İzmir because the dam correspond the deprivation nearly all of the İzmir.7. Parent House of İzmir:Among the buildings which were constructed at the period of İzmir’s Republic, Fire Department Construction had a privilege. Because of this concession, Mr. Piriştina restored this building and made it Parent House of İzmir.
8. Museums in İzmir:Ahmet Piriştina constructed a cultivation park for historical artifacts (stone, ceramic and precious works of art). This museum contains lots of precious works such as; cumulative period of civilizations art of works and cultural art of works.
