Suneate

Suneate

Suneate "literally shinguards" a popular type of component within the average attire of the samurai class during the Sengoku period of Japan. The Suneate consisted of vertical plates that are connected by either that of hinges or chain mail, and sometimes textile material. However, there will always be leather guard attached to the inner side of the place that will come into contact with the stirrup when in the process of riding. The more ancient examples of these shinguards are seen as plates, often with rather large knee guards attached. These had been discarded during the Sengoku period due to interfere with free movement. The left will always be put on first, and then the abumi-zure will be placed towards the inner side of the leg. The cords are to be tied rather fast after this point.
