Uwa-obi

Uwa-obi

Uwa-obi a type of belt/sash that was worn amongst the samurai class around the times of the Sengoku period (16th century) of Japan. With this Uwa-obi sash, linen and cloth made of cotton would be recommended to be wound two to three times around the body when worn. If one wishes to wear an Uwa-obi as a section of the attire of samurai, one must first fold this cotton cloth into two, then twist it and place it within a piece of leather within the centre. This method is used to that you can find the middle of the Uwa-obi if you are to be in a dark area. When putting on the Uwa-obi, you must put the center of the mark against the front of the do, then take two of the ends around the waist area and back to the front. After the do is shook, you must tie the obi in front rather firmly within the hanamusubi knot before being mentioned.
