Edward Scull (
February 5 ,1818 –July 10 ,1900 ) was a Republican member of theU.S. House of Representatives fromPennsylvania .Edward Scull was born in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania . Attended the common schools and pursued an academic course. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1844, moved toSomerset, Pennsylvania , in 1846 and practiced until 1857. He served asprothonotary and clerk of the court for three years. He was appointed collector of internal revenue by PresidentAbraham Lincoln in 1863. He was removed by PresidentAndrew Johnson in September 1866. He served as a delegate to theRepublican National Convention s in 1864, 1876, and 1884. He was appointed assessor of internal revenue by PresidentUlysses S. Grant in April 1869, and again appointed collector, on March 22, 1873, and served until August 1883, when the district was consolidated with another. He published and edited the "Somerset Herald " from 1852 to 1887.Scull was elected as a Republican to the Fiftieth, Fifty-first, and Fifty-second Congresses. After his time in congress, he retired to Somerset. He died in Somerset, and is buried in Union Cemetery.
