"The Valley Today" began publishing on Monday,
October 16 ,2006 and ended operations in January 2007 after only three months. It was established by an investor group led by former "London Free Press " andMaclean Hunter correspondent Jim White. Julie Carl was Managing Editor; she was a nominee for theMichener Award and the National Newspaper Association Award (NNA), winner of the Y's International Peace Medal).The paper was published as an evening paper in contrast to its competing publications owned by
Transcontinental Media . The initial distribution called for 10,000 copies at 40 pages in size, with plans to expand to 15,000-20,000 copies within 6 months, however non-existent advertising revenue and poor circulation sales led to its early demise.Its motto was "Independent Voice of the Valley" and it was printed at the press plant operated by the "Chronicle-Herald" in Bedford.
