- Viva, Viva a FRELIMO
"Viva, Viva a
FRELIMO " (Portuguese: "Long Live FRELIMO") was thenational anthem ofMozambique fromJune 25 1975 toApril 30 ,2002 .It was written by
Justino Sigaulane Chemane in the 1970s, in celebration of Mozambique's mainpolitical party from independence in 1975 to 1992. In 1992, however, multi-partyelections were held, and the lyrics to the song were removed, as they were felt to be inappropriate in a democratic country. In April 1997, the Mozambican government initiated a contest to see who could write the best new lyrics for the anthem. "
Pátria Amada " became Mozambique's national anthem on April 30, 2002.Portuguese lyrics
