province of Bolzano ,Italy . It comprises the lower part of the valley of theIsarco River , fromWaidbruck toBolzano . It is named after the plateauSalten and the mountainSciliar (Schlern in German). According to the 2001 census, 77% of the population of Salten-Schlern speaks German as first language, 19% Ladin, and 4% Italian.
