Westfarms Mall is a two level, 1.3 million square foot upscale
shopping mall located astride the borders of Farmington, andWest Hartford, Connecticut . It opened in 1974 and was expanded twice, first in 1982 with the opening of Lord & Taylor. It was expanded more substantially again in 1996 with the addition of Connecticut's first Nordstrom location and around 20 additional shops. The mall is currently owned byTaubman Company . Crew ,Au Bon Pain , andRainforest Cafe . Westfarms also offers a variety of lower bracket stores such asAmerican Eagle Outfitters ,Express ,H&M ,Hollister ,FYE ,Forever 21 ,Gap ,Steve Madden , andAerie , The mall includes four anchor stores,Nordstrom ,Macy's (two locations),J.C. Penney , andLord & Taylor .By the end of 2008
Louis Vuitton andCole Haan will be opening boutiques inside the mall.Two of Westfarms' original anchor stores,
G. Fox & Co. andSage-Allen , were the dominant local department store chains for generations. The G.Fox store converted to its sisterFilene's division in 1993 and after Sage-Allen's demise, its space became the Filene's Men's & Home store in 1995. Both locations are now rebranded as Macy's.From its grand opening in 1974 until 2002, the mall's center court featured lavish waterfall-style fountains and a small stage area, taking up much of the center court area. A 2002 renovation removed all of the water display and gave the space a more open look.
