2AY is an AM radio station broadcasting from Albury, New South Wales, to South West New South Wales and North East Victoria.

History

2AY Albury was started by Amalgamated Wireless Australasia Limited, and opened on December 17, 1930. In recent times, 2AY, and Star FM Albury, were owned by DMG Radio Australia. In 2005, Macquarie Regional RadioWorks bought 2AY, Star FM, and rival station 105.7 The River. Due to cross media ownership laws limiting the number of radio stations owned by one company in a market to two, Macquarie was required to sell one station. They sold 2AY to Ace Radio.

The Cash Cow

The Cash Cow is played every weekday on 2AY at 6.45 am on the Steve Block breakfast show, as well as 3.45pm on the Richard Perno Afternoon Show. Until mid July, the cash cow was a "secret sound", where Listeners would call in and try to guess a recording of a sound, if the guess is correct, the win the jackpot. In July, the secret sound was correctly guessed (Putting a Sticky-Tape reel into its holder) and the winner from Lavington won $1600 cash.Replacing the Secret Sound is now the '$1000 Minute'. Played at the same time, the One Thousand Dollar Minute lets listeners have a chance to win One Thousand Dollars by correctly answering Ten Questions in sixty seconds. If they correctly answer all ten questions, the timer is stopped. The money went off with Richard Perno in the afternoon show of the first airing of the competition, but is yet to go off since.
